Feline Health Recommendations

Preventative Care for Cats

Keeping your cat healthy starts with preventative care. Regular veterinary visits, routine health services, and parasite prevention help protect your cat from illness and allow potential health concerns to be detected early. At Pinnacle Animal Hospital, we focus on providing the essential care your cat needs to live a long, healthy life.

Spay and Neuter

Spaying and neutering provide important health benefits and help prevent unwanted litters. These procedures can reduce the risk of certain cancers and reproductive diseases, while also helping decrease roaming and unwanted behaviors.

Our veterinary team performs spay and neuter procedures with a focus on safety, comfort, and proper recovery for your cat.

Dental Care

Dental health is essential for your cat’s overall well-being. Without regular dental care, plaque and tartar can build up, leading to gum disease, tooth loss, and infections that may affect other organs.

Professional dental cleanings remove plaque and tartar while allowing our team to examine your cat’s mouth for signs of disease. Routine dental care helps maintain healthy teeth, gums, and fresh breath.

Parasite Prevention for Cats

Parasites such as fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal worms can cause serious health problems for cats. Some parasites can also be transmitted to humans, making prevention especially important.

At Pinnacle Animal Hospital, we carry trusted in-house parasite prevention products to keep your cat protected year-round. Our veterinary team will recommend the best option based on your cat’s age, lifestyle, and risk factors.

Feline Vaccines

Vaccinations are a critical part of protecting cats from serious and potentially life-threatening diseases. Core vaccines are recommended for all cats, while lifestyle vaccines may be recommended based on your cat’s environment and risk factors.

Core Vaccines

Rabies The rabies vaccine is required by law and protects against a fatal virus carried by wildlife such as bats, raccoons, and skunks. Rabies is a zoonotic disease, meaning it can be transmitted to humans. Cats without a current rabies vaccination may be quarantined if exposed to wildlife or if they bite a person or another animal.

FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia)
This core vaccine protects cats against several highly contagious and potentially life-threatening diseases. Panleukopenia, in particular, is extremely resilient and can survive in the environment for months, causing severe gastrointestinal illness.

Lifestyle Vaccines

Feline Leukemia (FeLV) Recommended for cats that spend time outdoors or may be exposed to other cats, this vaccine helps protect against a virus that can lead to anemia, immune suppression, and cancer.

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)
Depending on your cat’s risk factors and lifestyle, vaccination against FIV may be recommended to help prevent this viral disease.
